Developing first-level leaders is a pivotal role in contemporary organizations. We recently administered a “Voice of the Industry” survey, where respondents forecasted the leadership development priorities of their organizations for first, middle and senior-level leaders. Respondents also identified the strategic priorities of their organizations and highlighted related implementation challenges.
“Fit” means having the flexibility, strength, and stamina needed to meet challenges. To meet the shifting challenges in today’s organizations, first-level leaders need what we can call managerial fitness. In this paper we outline the critical dimensions of managerial fitness that are required for success in the evolving work environments in which today’sfirst-level leaders perform.
